This is easy…Just use regular balloons, “Happy Birthday” banners, flowers, and anything else you can find that doesn’t have an actual number of an age on it. If the birthday is around another holiday, theme the decor to that instead of to an actual age.

Choosing a color scheme can go a long way to coordinate party decor. If everything is themed to a specific color palette or decor theme, you can decorate without making it too birthday-themed, and it can just be color-coded.

Set up color-themed dessert or food stations to keep your guests busy eating. You can get a lot of colored party supplies that don’t have specific ages on them at discount stores, so it’s easy to coordinate a specific color for this.
Some good food options for an adult’s birthday party include:
- Birthday cake and cupcakes
- Hot dishes that guests can help themselves to (use a crock pot)
- Set up a bar with bottled drinks, or have a bartender assigned to make cocktails for people.
- Finger foods like canapes or two-bite appetizers
- Pizza for an informal get-together
- Barbecue foods like burgers and hot dogs for a summer party
- Set up a taco bar for guests to make their own.
- A dessert bar
You basically want to give people enough food to keep them from getting irritated from hunger, or to offset the effects of the alcohol you’re serving! If you want to minimize the possibility of having someone’s drunk uncle staggering around the party, just don’t serve very much booze. Make it a hot chocolate bar instead of a real bar.

No-age party games and activities.
Birthday party ideas for adults need to be things that your group will find amusing. If you know that you have a crowd that doesn’t like being foolish, don’t make them play charades. A safe bet is anything that people can do on paper, like Bingo or games where they write down answers about the person who’s having the birthday. Those games don’t ask anyone to embarrass themselves, which probably isn’t something that people are going to be excited to do (unless your crowd is into that.)
Get cards like this from Zazzle to play a simple game of “who knows her best.” This can get very competitive, so don’t be surprised if people actually argue with the person whose birthday it is about their answers being right when they’re not.
Have a themed activity, like the apple pie baking contest I mentioned above. I went to a birthday party once where this was the actual theme, and everyone brought a pie to enter in the contest. We all ate each other’s pies, and them the judges gave prizes for the pies they liked best. It was fun, and nobody was focused on the birthday girl’s age because we were all busy being competitive about our pies.
You can also have the party at a local activity/event space like a pottery painting studio or an escape room, if you’re into that. Any kind of activity that you give your guests to do is good because it will keep everyone busy and engaged during the party.

This is another easy one. Just give people a nice party favor but leave any mention of age off of it. It’s an easy thing to do, and your guests probably won’t even notice.
