Materials you’ll need.

- Cardboard rounds
- Contact paper sheets
- Scissors
- Duct tape or masking tape
You’ll need cardboard rounds that are about 12″ or smaller, depending on how large you want the final pieces to be. If you’re using them as chargers or serving trays, 12″ is fine.
I used cardboard cake boards that were already cut, but you can cut regular cardboard from delivery boxes to the size that you want. These are going to be decorative, so they don’t need to be super strong, but they shouldn’t be really flimsy and bent, so choose a good piece of cardboard to use.
You can also use square or rectangular pieces if you want a different size, but make sure that you have enough contact paper to cover them.
The contact paper can be found at the dollar store in the crafts or home decor sections. The sheets that I got were about 15″x15″, so I was able to trim them and press the edges up over the board. The sheets that you buy need to be about 3″ to 4″ larger than the width of the board that you’ll be covering.
Cut the paper.

Cut the boards into the shape that you want to cover, then put the board down on the back of the contact paper. draw a line around it that’s about 1 1/2″ to 2″ larger than the board, and cut the paper using that line as a guide.
Peel the backing off of the paper and put it sticky side up on the work surface.
Stick the paper to the boards.

Put the board in the center of the paper so that it’s in the center with an edge all the way around it.

Press the board onto the paper to stick it down well.

Go around the board edge and cut lines all the way around it about 3/4″ apart.

Go around the board and fold the notches up onto the back of the board. Go all the way around it, pulling the contact paper up and onto the back of the board to stick it on.

Work your way around the board until all of the flaps are folded up.
Use tape to attach the contact paper.

At this point that board will be covered, but the contact paper might try to peel away from the board, because it’s not made to be super sticky. Take a piece of duct tape (it fixes everything) or masking tape and take the edges down on the back to keep them attached to the board.

Once the board is taped down, the edges will be secure.
Finished boards.

This will give you a nice-looking board that has a decorative design on it. You can do a lot of the same design to coordinate things, or mix the patterns up.

I covered three boards with different patterns, and they can all be used for different purposes and themes.

This one was a gold pattern, so I used it for a gold dessert buffet.

The treats on it were all gold, so the pattern coordinated with the color of the party.

The three boards can be used for serving or as chargers under dinner plates at a party. They’ll decorate the dinner table or buffet, and they cost very little to make.
