An Ocean or Under The Sea themed baby shower is a fun one for the spring or summer, especially if you can throw the party outside. You can incorporate ocean ideas, sea creature references, and food made into beach-themed designs to serve to your guests. It can also range from mermaids to ocean animals as far as the invitations go. These are some ideas that I rounded up for a fun Under the Sea themed baby shower, plus supplies to design a cute party.

Sea baby shower theme decor ideas.
This is a fun theme to decorate for, since it’s easy to buy ocean-themed decorations, especially during the summer. You can find seashells and sand to make centerpieces, find fish-shaped balloons, and use a lot of blue or beige sandy colors to decorate.
Customized welcome signs.
Get a personalized welcome sign to greet guests at the entrance of the party. Match it to the invitations to carry the theme through the party.
Sand and seashells table centerpieces.
Create centerpieces with sand and seashells (the sand is best if you’re having the party outside.) If you don’t want to use the sand, you can get a lot of shells and beach towels and arrange them against the long side of a table where your food will be served on a buffet.
Surfboard buffet table.
If you can get your hands on a surfboard, put it on a table to decorate a buffet, or use the board on a couple of sawhorse legs to make a surfboard buffet.
Balloons arch.
Get colorful balloons in shades of blue and beige and tie them together to make an arch or garlands that can be used around doors, or for a photo booth backdrop. You can make your own, or get one of these cute sets to make an arch on Amazon
(affiliate link.)
A beachy mantel.
Decorate your mantel with seashells and sand buckets, or choose a different color to coordinate with the color scheme you’re using. You can also get large starfish at the craft store to use as the main focus, with smaller shells added for variety. Take a beach towel and drape it on the mantel to use as a colorful base layer, then put shells on it.
Gingham themed table runners.
Get a pretty seashell tablecloth that you can use for the party and afterward. This would be a pretty design to perk up your home after the party is over, and during hte party it will create a nice under the ocean feel.
Kids’ sand pails for decorations.
Get some kids’ sand pails and shovels to use as decorations, or if you have the party outside, use real sand as a base to put them on for decorations.
Sea themed baby shower food ideas.
Food for an Under the Sea themed baby shower could lean heavily on seafood, but be careful not to go overboard (pun intended.) Depending on whether your party is going to be formal or more casual, you could theme it like a beach picnic, a beach bonfire cookout, or set up a more formal buffet with seafood choices that your guests will love. If you want to go all-out, you can even hire a caterer to set up an ice bar with fresh oysters.
Before you choose the types of fish, read this article from the Mayo Clinic about which seafood pregnant women should avoid.
The mother-to-be should be able to enjoy the food at her own shower! Definitely avoid raw seafood, and some of the types of fish that are recommended to not eat if you’re expecting.
Pearl cake pops or balls.
Make cake pops (or buy them) and dust them with a reflective edible luster dust to give them a pearl sheen. You can get white Monegasque pearl dust on Amazon, and this video will show you how to use it on cakes and cupcakes:

Baby shower fruit platter.
Serve a fruit platter or set up a buffet with tropical fruit and selections like pineapple and oranges. Fruit is a good choice for everyone, and it’s a break from the cupcakes and other sweets that are the focus of most baby showers. Go with summery, beachy flavors like coconut, pineapple, citrus, and add some summery lemon sorbet to go with it.
Themed cake or cupcakes.
An under the sea themed cake or cupcakes is a fun addition to an Ocean party. You can get edible ocean decorations for an Under The Sea cake on Etsy, like this set that’s personalized. It’s technically for a birthday, but it could be used for a baby shower with the mother–to-be’s name on it!
Ocean cupcakes.
These printable cupcake wrappers from Greengate Images
can be downloaded and cut out as many times as you need to create a display of ocean-themed cupcakes.
Add these cute whale cupcake toppers
to finish the look!
A fresh juice bar.
Have a drink station set up where you have pitchers of fruit juices and flavored water. If you want to make them themed to put a spin on them, you can call them things like “kelp juice,” “pirate’s grog,” and “ocean water.”

Fishing pond.
Set up a “fishing pond” with little fishing rods that have magnets on the end, then get fish that have a magnet on them in a big bucket to grab. (Don’t let guest peek into the bucket when they go fishing.) Give each guest one try to win a prize (or two if you’re feeling generous) and write the name of the prize on each fish. the prizes should be good doorprize-quality, and when people see that they have a chance to win something they really like, they’ll definitely want to participate.
You could also do this as people leave so that they’re fishing for their party favors!
Seashell hunt.
If you have an outdoor space, hide a bunch of shells around the yard and give people a list of the ones that they need to find in the shortest amount of time. The first person to find everything on their list wins a prize.
