If you’re looking for a Valentine’s Day gift for a new relationship that aren’t too mushy or personal, these ideas will work. Depending on what your new boyfriend or new girlfriend has as interests, you can find something that they’ll like, shows your affection, but isn’t too much for someone you haven’t been dating for very long.

What to watch out for.
As someone who’s been in this situation before, and who’s seen a lot during her time on earth, you should navigate new-relationship Valentine’s Days really carefully. The first thing to understand is that no matter what you do as far as plans or gifts, people will make read something into it. Red roses? They might like it or it might come off like you’re coming on too strong too soon. A basic non-romantic gift? It might be seen as not caring at all.
The best thing to do is probably to ask if they want to do something on Valentine’s Day and see what they suggest. You can read whatever you want into that based on what they say, then decide on a gift in response. Of course, if you feel like this is “the one,” and they kind of feel the same way, it might be a lot easier, but if you’re trying to figure out how each of you is feeling, it can get tricky.
If you’re still figuring things out, a safe way to go is to pair a cute romantic-y gift with something that’s themed for the holiday but not necessarily super love-related. Flowers plus a useful gift that has hearts on it, for example.
Something thoughtful but not too intimate.
I asked a few people what they thought a good gift for this situation would be, and one person gave some examples and said “something thoughtful, but not too intimate.” That basically sums it up in general, so these ideas are patterned along those lines.
Some ides could be a nice art print, something relating to the person’s hobby, or a book about a subject you’ve had a conversation about (don’t make it political, you don’t want the person to think you’re trying to convince them that you’re right about something.) The following suggestions are also good, so read on.
Pink bowl and spreader for dip.
What could be more perfect for a Valentine’s (or Galentine’s) Day that’s romantic but not too much then a pink bowl and canapé knife
for your charcuterie. Get together for a nice dinner and give this as a gift that they can use later.

Cute wrapping paper.
Wrap your gift in some red roses or red glitter wrapping paper (use the hearts if you’re brave.) You can get this set in our shop on Zazzle.
Rose Petals.
If you want to decorate with some rose petals to set the mood, get some from Grace Renee Elegance

Raccoon print.

This cute print of a Valentine’s Day raccoon is gender neutral, made by actual human hands, and is a happy gift for all ages. It would be a cute Valentine’s Day gift for a new relationship because it shows your affection but the racoon makes it less intense.

Valentine’s Day treat stickers.
These cute vintage aesthetic stickers
can be personalized with your name and message to add to homemade treats or goodie bags that you give out on Valentine’s Day. Baking for someone is a nice gift but it’s not something that has to be super romantic, so this works as a gift for a new boyfriend or girlfriend.

A nice dinner out.
This is a classic Valentine’s Day activity, but pair it with flowers and it’s a winner for most couples, especially if it’s a new relationship. Not worrying about “what to give” and just focusing on having a nice evening is usually a good thing, and if it’s a nicer restaurant than the ones you usually go to, it will be a good evening.

Tickets to an event.
Giving tickets to an upcoming event is a good gift because it’s a couples activity and a promise that you’re going to be around for a while. Find an event that’s happening in the next month or so in case things don’t work out, and give the tickets to the other person to hold so that it’s a real gift, not just something that you’re saying you want to do on your own.

Hobby gear.
If they have a hobby that requires any kind of gear, like camping, sports, arts, etc, get them something that they can use. A gift doesn’t have to be romantic and covered with hearts, because the best gifts come when you really listen to what the other person really wants or needs. This is something that will be better for someone who likes practicality, though, so don’t give someone a backpack if they’d really prefer a box of chocolates!
